You know, I have been doing quite a bit of back and forth sniffing of my Ajax powder cleanser and my isobornyl acetate, and the missing ingredient will be something that is slightly minty sweet. Gosh, I would never spend $45 for an ingredient unless I was able to buy a sample first to know for certain that is what I'm looking for. If anyone wants to look at the detected ingredients for Comet Cleanser, they are here: I wonder if that could be a helpful ingredient in recreating the scent? One of the ingredients that's in the list is Cyclohexyl Acetate (Vertenex). It also includes fragrance ingredients like Isobornyl Acetate, l-Borneol, Eucalyptol, d-camphor, camphene, etc. The list features about 150 chemicals detected in Comet Cleanser and the list includes lots of solvents and caustic ingredients. I did manage to find what I believe is a Gas Chromatography list of detected components of Comet Cleanser, done a while back by EWG.org. I really would love to know what ingredient creates it. Yet, there's a strong, sweet powdery quality that's missing. I feel like that ingredient alone gets me about 80% toward my Ajax/Comet cleanser fragrance. When I was wearing a drop of kephalis yesterday, it was reminding me of a facet of Chinatown.Īnyway, I'm very pleased to have discovered Isobornyl Acetate (thanks again, Julian). I wonder if Kephalis was used in Chinatown by Bond No. The Kephalis is pleasant but I concur w/ Julian35 that it was not what I was looking for. The alpha-terpineol smells floral, similar to lilac, and does not smell at all like Ajax cleanser.
